Soldinho, we haven't had 8 ball overs since 1945, Trueman debuted in 1949

The fat cunt could have tried the Atkins diet, Sven?

Would've take a serious LOAD of pressure off his knees.

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
I'm of the view that the fact that bowlers in the past got fit for bowling by bowling a lot compared to now where they do more work in the gym instead.
Maybe bowlers did break down as much when they were 18-23 in the past but it doesn't seem like it. The theory is that bodies harden up by then and then they are ok. We shall see with the likes of Pat Cummins & James Pattinson in the next year or so.

Not sure Ryan Harris's knee could be put down to English wickets.
He had had chronic problems for years.
Probably didn't help that he won the Test series in S Africa by bowling all day on a leg where bone fragments were visible through his knee.

Fred Trueman used to bowl regularly 1000+ overs in an English summer... as did plenty of others... and they were 8 ball overs

Over 100+ days of cricket in a Summer. Hardly surprising.

Every genuine quick who has played regular cricket in England has retired with severe injuries in the last 10 years

What about 20, 30,40 years ago then?? Quicks used to bowl far far more overs than they do now and not break down?? So what's changed?/

Which England are we talking about here exactly?

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
It's good for Boult and Williamson to be benched in the IPL.

Free money, no chance of any injury.

I would heartily recommend that ALL IPL coaches bench their NZ players actually.

Let the 3rd rate Aussies have their little whack around.

Simon Jones
Andrew Flintoff
Ryan Harris
Chris Tremlett

With Graham Onions, Mark Wood, Tymal Mills and others chronically injured.

Hardest country to bowl quick in.

If Gillespie isnt careful he'll add Willey, Bresnan and Fisher to that list soon too!

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
There are plenty of coaches under consideration when and if any vacancy arises
Such as the IPL winning Tom Moody.
His selection strategy ...... Williamson (bench) , Boult (bench) .... showed great understanding of the game.

Nothing.
The column is sponsored by Liberty Specialty Markets who are the Insurance partners of the Test match grounds.
I believe he is paid £4.65 per word.

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
Interesting comments in his Evening Standard column which will appear after each Test. Gillespie not Moxon that is.
Reckons from his observation there are a lot of 'skilful' dibbly dobbly 'fast' bowlers in county cricket but not many if any pushing 90mph.

Sven Roeder 12:35 Wed Jun 1
Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
He couldn't bear watching Moxon wailing & sobbing.
Or with his young family he wants a nice easy life without all the international travel for now.
One of those I think. Or both

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
When you look at the UPPER reaches of those lists it does become clear that Test cricket is in a lull & in need of new superstars to refresh it.
I am sure people like Joe ROOT & Ben STOKES will move quickly up those lists amongst others.

Martin MOXON has an eye for coaches so I am sure Yorkshire won't end up in Division two again where he took them for a regroup. In a canny style as part of a winning strategy obviously

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
In both bowling and batting England have 2 of the top 4 currently active players in terms of Test runs and wickets.
Anderson , Broad , Cook & Bell.
Steyn is the only one near approaching the top who has any likelihood of getting close but as said I suspect all the other bowlers will be gone within a couple of years.
Reckon he will call it a day at the end of the year after their Aust tour & some home Tests.

Anderson will probably look to retire after the Ashes early in 2018.
Presuming he gets through next English summer where all the Tests are in July & August due to the ICC Champions trophy in June.

Congratulations to James ANDERSON on becoming the world's number 1 (ONE) Test match bowler, alongside his 450 wickets.

Re: 2nd test v Sri Lanka from Durham
Cook now trails Tendulkar by about 5,900 Test runs and will be 32 in December.
No reason why he can't play another 5 years at least. That might be another 60 Tests so an average around 50 would get him there.
While he is doing that I would be surprised if any of the currently active Test bowlers with more than 200 wickets that he will face last more than 2 years.
Harbhajan Singh 417, Steyn 406, Herath 300, M Morkel 242, Siddle 208, Sharma 201.
